Banal Paintings – Stephan Schneider AW16

Stephan was always fascinated by the banality of the paintings that filled the walls of his family home. Paintings of places they had never been, flowers they never owned in a colour palette that had an ordinariness about it
This was a starting point for both the AW16 collection prints and the installation for his showroom presentation. He used copies of the paintings to create collages and muted all the detail and colour by covering the painting with a monochrome colour range taken from the collection.
This resulted in both the prints and paintings becoming ‘ghosts’ of Stephan’s memories and fascination
